The forecast was iffy, however, apart from a few mild showers here and there, the weather held off and we were able to complete a game for the first time in ages.

Westquarter won the toss and put us in. We got off to a brisk start, but a couple of quick wickets slowed down the tempo as Rehan and Nigel played themselves in. Boundaries started increasing as the pair put on 85 runs. Contributions were steady and boundaries were regular, with the run-rate hovering around 4 runs/over and we were beginning to think that anything over 200 would be a bonus. Then Manju played yet another key innings, scoring 46 at a strike rate of at least 150. All in all, 237 was a good effort with the bat on a sticky wicket.

After tea, Westquarter got off to a brisk start, scoring at 8 runs an over until a double-strike by Manish - including a superb stumping by Nigel to dismiss their talisman opener - followed by a third wicket a few overs later, calmed things down a bit. Then followed a sluggish period of 20 or so overs where some tight bowling kept the run-rate down, yeilding 28 runs 3 wickets and 8 maildens. Meanwhile, the 30 over mark came and went, assuring a result, and, with the way things stood, we were beginning to smell it!

This was but the calm before a left-handed storm named Colin Fox arrived at the crease, batting #9. His 67 included a number of huge and consequtive sixes, pushing us back and over the ropes. With 35 odd needed of the last 3 overs, he had us thinking that he might just be able to pull it off! In the end it was his wicket - Manish's fourth - that ended Westquarter's innings and won the game for us. Colin, who so calmly dispatched the soap-bar over the boundary and made for an exciting finish in damp conditions, also used to play for Boroughmuir. He jokes that he scored more runs in this game than he managed in 8 years for us!

Boroughmuir 237 all out: M Kodandaram 46, R Armed 42, N Binnie 33, M Sachdeva 24, E Hutchinson 22 | Z Ikram 3-40

Westquarter and Redding 206 all out: C Fox 67, H Mumtaz 38 | M Sachdeva 4-43, K Docherty 2-17, A Gupta 1-11, C Buchan 1-31
